'Now.'

10 minute sound piece, looped.

This piece follow a series within the project ‘Now’ when I was exploring the philosophical dimensions of time, both subjective and objective time by recording myself say the word ‘now’, which then only become ‘now’ the moment it is being spoken. This prolonged onto a series of other pieces shown below.

This piece consist of a manipulation of the documentation of ‘now’, by revering the word.

This extended onto a new piece ‘A Thousand Nows’ shown below.

‘A Thousand Nows’ is an extension of manipulating the word ’now’ with a canon affect used within classical music, to construct a thousand nows in one minute.

The realisation of being able to manipulate this word, enabled me to realise that the ‘now’ is no longer ‘now, but then only being heard now. This prompted the next piece consisting of 3 sounds: one played on headphones, one on speakers and one as a performance. The extension of the ‘now’ into a performance realised the presents involved in the impossible task of capturing the now. Even any documentation ( such as the photograph) is only a document of the performance, the. It is only being viewed now, and is not happening now. The performance can only be realised within the constraints of time and the present moment of the performance.

The piece consists of the end result of a live looping of the word ‘now’. In order to encapsulate my attempt of capturing the ‘now’. The recording of. cannon affect of this word, did not successively achieve the capturing of the present, or rather the ‘now’ and as a consequence I have enhanced this task by performing a live loop of ‘now.’
